Everything people ask us
What exactly is EMS?
Electrical muscle stimulation adds a light electrical impulse to voluntary movement. It reaches the deep fibres that movement alone engages poorly. The result: the whole body works at once, without heavy loads.
Does it hurt?
No. It feels like a deep contraction, a little disconcerting the first time. The intensity is raised gradually, with you, and set muscle by muscle.
How long does a session last?
Twenty minutes of training. Count on three quarters of an hour on site with the welcome, getting into the suit and the shower.
How often should you come?
Once a week is enough to progress. A gap of forty-eight hours between sessions is needed: the muscle needs that time to recover.
I've never done sport, is it for me?
Yes. Your coach starts from your actual level. There's no group to keep up with, no machine to figure out, no weight to lift.
Do you need to be fit to start?
No. It's actually the opposite: EMS is often used when getting back into exercise, precisely because it doesn't strain the joints.
How soon do you see results?
The first sensations come after two to three weeks, visible changes usually after two to three months. Body analysis lets you check this objectively.
Will I sweat?
Little, compared with a conventional session. Most members leave after a quick shower, and many come on their lunch break.
What should I bring?
Something to shower and change into. The training gear worn under the suit is provided by the studio.
Can you do EMS while pregnant?
No, it's not advised throughout pregnancy. After giving birth, you resume with the agreement of your doctor or midwife.
What are the contraindications?
A pacemaker and electronic implants are an absolute contraindication. Epilepsy, severe heart conditions, thrombosis, hernia, cancer under treatment or acute infection require medical advice. A health questionnaire is filled in with you before the first session.
Does EMS make you lose weight?
It increases muscle mass, and therefore energy expenditure at rest, and that expenditure continues after the session. But training doesn't replace nutrition: results also depend on what's on your plate.
What's the difference from a regular gym?
Time, coaching and load. Twenty minutes versus an hour, a coach for you versus an open gym floor, and no heavy load on the joints.
Is there a minimum term?
The trial session commits you to nothing. Membership terms vary by option and by studio: they are presented to you before any signature.
What is the Ladies Only studio?
Belgium's first 100% women-only EMS studio, on Rue Antoine Dansaert in Brussels. Clients, coaches, reception: women only, and each changing room has its own shower.
